Mithun Chakraborty & Anjan Dutt Face Off in Quirky Courtroom Rom-Com Shreeman vs Shreemati

Two giants of Bengali cinema, Mithun Chakraborty and Anjan Dutt, are set to share the screen for the very first time in the upcoming Bengali film Shreeman vs Shreemati, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled. The trailer for the film dropped recently and has already garnered over a million likes within 24 hours, setting social media abuzz with anticipation. The film, a rom-com with an unusual courtroom twist, is scheduled to hit theatres on Thursday, 1 May 2025.

 

Directed by Pathikrrit Basu and produced by Kahhak Studios, the film is loosely inspired by India’s longest-running divorce case. It follows the story of Judge Amal Chowdhury (played by Mithun Chakraborty), a strict magistrate known for never granting divorces, who assigns an eccentric “role-reversal” challenge to a modern-day warring couple, Sourav and Amrita. But the twist? The judge himself has been stuck in a 27-year divorce battle with his estranged wife Aparna — played by Anjana Basu — and soon finds himself roped into a comedic journey of reconciliation with the very people he was judging.

 

Anjan Dutt plays the role of Sourav, a self-absorbed music producer who suddenly finds himself wearing sarees and managing household chores as part of the judge’s experiment, while Amrita, played by Madhumita, takes over his career responsibilities. What unfolds is a heartwarming, often hilarious story that explores love, ego, and the absurdity of long-standing grudges. With a stellar ensemble cast including Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Roshni Bhattacharya, and Satyam Bhattacharya, Shreeman vs Shreemati promises to be a delightful mix of classic Bengali wit and modern storytelling.

 

Presented by Adipta Majumder, the film blends satire with emotion, showcasing generational clashes and the timeless messiness of relationships. With Mithun’s legendary screen presence and Anjan Dutt’s natural flair for dry humor, this unlikely pairing is expected to create fireworks.
