Ben Foster Spirals Into Obsession in Trailer for Sharp Corner, a Tense Suburban Thriller

Vertical has unveiled the official trailer for Sharp Corner, a chilling new thriller that promises to turn quiet suburbia into a psychological pressure cooker. Written and directed by Jason Buxton, and based on a short story by Russell Wangersky, the film stars Ben Foster and Cobie Smulders in a haunting tale of guilt, obsession, and the deceptively sharp edges of good intentions.

The trailer opens with a jarring bang — quite literally — as a car slams into a tree outside Josh and Rachel’s new suburban home on the very night they move in. One dead. Several injured. And according to the neighbors, it’s not the first time. Josh, played by Foster in full-throttle intensity, becomes consumed by the idea of being prepared for the next accident. What begins as noble concern quickly mutates into an unsettling fixation, as he drills CPR routines, patrols the street, and spirals into an isolated vigilante of "readiness."

Cobie Smulders, as Rachel, tries to hold together a home that’s rapidly unraveling under the weight of her husband’s psychological deterioration. The supporting cast, including Gavin Drea and William Kosovic, add further depth to a narrative that swerves between eerie realism and unraveling delusion.

Set for a theatrical release on May 9, 2025, Sharp Corner is shaping up to be a slow-burn thriller that doesn’t rely on jump scares, but rather the terrifying quiet of a mind slipping — one roadside rescue at a time. With Buxton’s sharp direction and Foster’s unnerving performance, this might just be one of the year’s most disturbing explorations of suburban obsession.
