“Hansal Mehta and Mukesh Chhabra to Produce Hindi Adaptation of Acclaimed Sri Lankan Comedy Tentigo”

In a thrilling announcement, renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta and producer Sahil Saigal are teaming up to bring the official Hindi adaptation of Tentigo (originally Nelum Kuluna) to Indian audiences. The critically acclaimed Sri Lankan comedy, which gained international recognition after premiering at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2023, will be produced under their banner, True Story Films, which was introduced earlier this year.

 

Tentigo made waves globally, winning the prestigious Special Jury Award at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Produced by Hiranya Perera and Crawling Angel Films, the film captivated critics and audiences alike with its irreverent humor and emotionally poignant narrative. True Story Films has joined forces with Crawling Angel Films, with Sanjay Gulati and Neeraj Pandey co-producing the Hindi adaptation. Additionally, celebrated casting director and director Mukesh Chhabra makes his debut as a producer on this exciting project, with Hiranya Perera serving as Associate Producer.

 

The Hindi adaptation will be written by Karan Vyas, a three-time Filmfare winner known for his work on Scam 1992, Scam 2003, Scoop, and Saas Bahu aur Flamingo. Vyas promises a fresh, madcap take on the original, blending humor with emotional depth to bring a new flavor to the film while retaining its core essence. The official announcement for the Hindi adaptation was made at the premiere of Tentigo in Colombo on March 12, 2025, where the creative team celebrated the success of the original film. The film was released in theaters on March 14, 2025, to critical acclaim, further increasing anticipation for the Hindi version.

 

Speaking about the project, Hansal Mehta shared, "I’m not usually in favor of remakes, but this one had me genuinely excited. The moment I saw Tentigo, I couldn’t stop laughing. It was sharp, irreverent, and yet deeply emotional—the kind of story that stays with you. I believe this adaptation will resonate with audiences across India. We at True Story Films are thrilled to bring this incredibly funny film to a wider audience." Mukesh Chhabra, who has worked with Hansal Mehta on various projects since Shahid, added, "This feels like a natural extension of everything we’ve built over the years. I’m excited about this new chapter in my career and can’t wait for audiences to experience this exciting film."

 

Sanjay Gulati of Crawling Angel Films also expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "Tentigo, as a comedy, defies the typical 'Festival Film' label and is now gaining traction beyond that circle. Through this adaptation, I aim to break free from such definitions, as what truly matters is reaching a wide audience. While details about the director and cast of the Hindi adaptation are currently under wraps, the producers assure that the project will feature a talented lineup that will elevate the film's already high expectations. With its combination of humor, heart, and cultural resonance, Tentigo's Hindi version promises to be a standout film in Indian cinema.
