I’m Not Trying to Convey Anything, Just Searching for Good Stories” Sohum Shah

Sohum Shah’s latest film, Crazxy, has hit cinemas today and is receiving widespread praise from audiences, who were eagerly waiting for his next project following the success of Tumbbad. In a recent interview, Sohum spoke about the challenges and experiences of working on this unique film, as well as his approach to choosing projects.

 

Sohum described the most challenging part of working on Crazxy as simply driving a car. According to him, the director insisted on it, and he humorously said, "The challenging part was that I had to drive the car... there was nothing more challenging than that." Revealing the lighter side of the film’s production, he added that other than that, there were no significant challenges.

 

Reflecting on the script and the creative process, Sohum revealed his admiration for the writer who created the madness and chaos that defines Crazxy. He said, "The person who wrote Crazxy Girish was able to see that madness within... I really like people who have madness in them, craziness in them." Sohum believes that people with such creative madness are truly special. He also acknowledged the difficulty of writing a script like Crazxy, particularly in 2017 when it was first written, noting how it kept him hooked when he read it, calling it “a page-turner.”

 

When asked about the pressure following Tumbbad, Sohum made it clear that there was no stress about needing the next project to be bigger or more successful. "There was no pressure... that after Tumbbad, the next project should be this big, this successful, or this... I don’t have a specific genre as a producer or actor... like, this is what I want to say... or there is something I need to convey... I don’t need to say anything... I am just looking for a good script," he explained. Sohum emphasized that his main goal is to find good scripts with great directors, particularly those with a touch of madness, suggesting his preference for unconventional, bold filmmaking.

 

Sohum also acknowledged that the writer had an incredible vision for the story, and it was the script’s strength that truly stood out. He noted that having a bound script was critical, and praised the 90-page script he first received.
