“People Used to Believe in Mythology, But This Is Our History” – Director Mukesh Kumar Singh on Kannappa’s Journey

Director Mukesh Kumar Singh shared his vision and insights into the film Kannappa during the teaser launch event held in Mumbai on Monday. The historical drama, which delves into the life of the devoted follower of Lord Shiva, presents a new perspective on Indian mythology, and Mukesh is passionate about shifting the narrative from mythology to history.

 

He explained, "People used to believe in mythology, but this is our history... This is a journey of understanding it as history rather than mythology. Because of this, people's interest in such films are growing. People now feel that there are facts involved. A little while ago, people used to think that Ram and Krishna existed, but even about Kannappa, people questioned whether he existed or not. But Kannappa has a village that has been recognised by ASI. So, all of this is our history, which was buried under the label of mythology. Now, it is gradually resurfacing, and that's why it's becoming more famous."

 

Mukesh further highlighted how the film has been made with ease and love. "Everyone was dedicated to Shiva, and we were working on such a grand canvas. The film was completed so smoothly, without any stress. It was made with love and passion," he said.

 

One of the key features of Kannappa, according to Mukesh, is its visual spectacle. "The visuals are stunning because we are telling the story of the second century. At that time, what would Bharat have looked like? What would our rivers and jungle landscapes have looked like? In search of this, Vishnu ji  visited New Zealand. There, you can place a camera anywhere, and the result will always be a 'wow.' This 'wow' factor will definitely captivate the audience."

 

Kannappa starring Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Madhoo , Mohanlal will hit the cinemas on 25th April, 2025.
