Housing for all is our policy, says Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO

Mumbai, Feb 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO, SVR Srinivas, on Thursday re-emphasised that all those residents who have missed out on the eligibility survey must come forward and submit their documents else they may miss out on the redevelopment benefits.

“The Dharavi redevelopment project is India’s largest slum rehabilitation project. We do not want anyone to be homeless. Everyone will get home irrespective of their eligibility. Those who are eligible will get homes within Dharavi and those who are ineligible will be housed outside Dharavi,” the DRP CEO said.

Speaking with the media here, Srinivas clarified, “In no other slum rehabilitation project in India, there is a provision for rehabilitating ineligible tenement holders. However, the state government’s aim is to provide housing to all in Dharavi. So, the government is making an exception.”

He highlighted that around 540 acres of land has been allocated for rehabilitation of ineligible residents outside Dharavi and all these land parcels will be transferred from the land-owning authority to DRP. “Not a square inch of land has been transferred to any private entity,” he clarified.

NMDPL will only pay the premium to get the rights to construct rehabilitation units for ineligible Dharavikars on these lands, he added.

Srinivas said that door-to-door survey has been completed for more than 53,000 tenements and around 85,000 tenements have been numbered.

“It is my humble submission to all those who have not yet participated in survey despite repeated visits by survey teams to participate in the eligibility survey. Otherwise, they will be left out of getting redevelopment benefits. Our intention is not to leave out anyone but to give benefit of the project to maximum number of people,” he underlined.

Responding to question on masterplan, Srinivas said, “the master plan will be completed within a month and disclosed to public.”

Around 1.5 lakh tenements will be rehabilitated, ensuring better housing, infrastructure, and economic opportunities while preserving the dignity of Dharavi's people.
