'My Melbourne' Trailer Unveils: A Powerful Anthology on Identity and Belonging

The much-anticipated trailer for My Melbourne, an anthology film that explores the diverse landscapes of identity, sexuality, gender, disability, and race, has officially dropped. With a global release set for March 14, 2025, in India, this film promises to offer viewers a deeply reflective and enriching cinematic experience, showcasing the multicultural spirit of Melbourne. The film will first hit cinemas in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji on March 6, 2025.

My Melbourne brings together an impressive ensemble of four iconic Indian directors—Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, and Onir—who collaborate on telling four unique stories, each depicting a different facet of the migrant experience. Rooted in authentic true events, the anthology delves into the personal journeys of characters navigating their own struggles with identity and belonging. The interconnected stories highlight the realities of what it means to carve out a space in a multicultural society while tackling societal challenges related to sexuality, gender, disability, and race.

Produced by Mitu Bhowmick Lange, renowned film distributor and Festival Director of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), My Melbourne marks a major milestone in inclusive filmmaking. The project not only amplifies the voices of established Indian filmmakers but also gives a platform to emerging creatives from underrepresented backgrounds. Through this collaboration, the film underscores the importance of storytelling that reflects a wide spectrum of human experiences.

The cast features a talented lineup, including Arka Das, Jackson Gallagher, Mouli Ganguly, Arushi Sharma, Kat Stewart, Ryanna Lawson, Mikhaela Ebony, Setara Amiri, and Brad Hodge. These actors bring to life characters whose stories mirror the lived experiences of the migrant communities in Melbourne. With themes that resonate on a global scale, My Melbourne is set to leave a lasting impact on audiences as it brings together the vibrant voices of both seasoned and emerging filmmakers.

The collaboration between such distinguished filmmakers and diverse talent in My Melbourne is a testament to the power of cinema as a tool for cultural expression and social change. As the film approaches its release, it stands as a beacon of representation and inclusivity, celebrating the many facets of identity in today’s world.
