Vinay Sapru: The Visionary Behind ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ and Its Resounding Re-Release

Vinay Sapru is a name synonymous with heartfelt storytelling and cinematic brilliance. Co-writing and co-directing the 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, Sapru has left an indelible mark on the world of Hindi cinema. The film, which starred Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has continued to resonate with audiences long after its release. In 2025, after nine years, the film was re-released, proving its timeless appeal and further solidifying Sapru’s place as a master storyteller.

 

Sapru, who worked alongside Radhika Rao on Sanam Teri Kasam, reflects fondly on the creation of the film. In an interview discussing the re-release, he said, “Whenever a writer writes, and when a director works on it, it’s like part of his soul, and the same thing happened with us. And the people who have watched the film and kept asking us to release it theatrically—after nine years, we’ve done it, and the response has been great.”

 

“The best thing is, though the film is available on digital platforms, the audience is still flocking to cinemas to celebrate the film. Fans are dancing, singing, shooting reels... it feels like a celebration of our work, something we wrote a decade ago, and the whole nation is celebrating it” added Sapru. 

 

The re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam is a testament to Sapru’s understanding of storytelling that transcends time. He’s managed to create a modern classic, a love story that remains etched in the hearts of millions. 

 

Sapru’s ability to craft a narrative that resonates across generations is a rare skill, and this re-release marks another significant milestone in his already impressive career. 

 

The makers are planning the sequel, Sanam Teri Kasam 2, with Harshvardhan Rane.
