If you’re in the mood for a mystery thriller that’s got all the ingredients—disappearing wives, creepy twists, and a man questioning his own sanity—then Khoj - Parchaiyon Ke Uss Paar on ZEE5 might just be your thing. Or… maybe not. While the series is certainly ambitious, it ends up feeling like a “whodunnit” that spends more time wandering in circles than unraveling its central mystery.
The plot kicks off with a bang: Ved (Sharib Hashmi), a man living a perfectly normal life, is struck by an unexpected tragedy when his wife Meera disappears without a trace. Cue the mystery bells. As Ved begins his desperate search for answers, things take a bizarre turn. A woman (Anupriya Goenka) shows up at his doorstep, claiming to be his wife—Meera. However, Ved is unconvinced, and the series dives headfirst into his paranoia and confusion. Is this woman really his wife, or has he lost his mind? Is the woman an imposter, or is Ved’s mind playing tricks on him due to mental health issues and memory loss?
If you’ve seen the 1989 film Khoj starring Rishi Kapoor, you might already have an inkling of where this is going. And unfortunately, that’s part of the problem with this series. It borrows heavily from familiar territory but fails to add any fresh or exciting elements. The twists, while still there, are often predictable, and you’ll find yourself waiting for the story to pick up the pace rather than trying to figure out what’s really going on. The show’s biggest flaw? It’s just not as gripping as it should be. A lot of the plot feels forced, with incoherent scenes that don’t quite tie into the larger narrative. You might even find yourself skipping through sections, hoping to get to the good part—if there is one.
But here’s the thing: despite its flaws, the show does manage to create some moments of suspense. There’s a lingering question of what’s real? and who can you trust? and for a while, that keeps you invested. Sharib Hashmi’s portrayal of a man unraveling at the seams is commendable, and Anupriya Goenka delivers a solid performance as the enigmatic woman who may or may not be Meera. However, the rest of the performances don’t quite hit the same high note. Aamir Dalvi’s character adds some intrigue, but overall, the supporting roles feel underdeveloped and don’t quite bring the depth that’s needed for a thriller of this nature.
What Khoj does well, however, is address deeper themes. The series subtly highlights issues like women’s rights, the consequences of domestic violence, and the lasting impact of childhood trauma. While it might feel forced at times, these elements do add some emotional weight to the otherwise formulaic plot.
By the time the final episode rolls around, the series finally unravels the big secrets—mostly related to Meera’s life and her disappearance. But by then, it’s almost too little, too late. The long, drawn-out mystery could have benefited from tighter pacing, and the big reveal, while interesting, doesn't quite have the emotional punch it should have.
In the end, Khoj - Parchaiyon Ke Uss Paar is a mystery thriller that doesn’t live up to its potential. It has its moments—some suspenseful sequences and strong performances—but it’s bogged down by a predictable plot and a lack of fresh ideas. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers and don’t mind some wandering, this could still be worth a watch. But if you’re looking for a mind-bending mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat, you might want to keep looking.
Final Verdict: A series with all the right ingredients, but it doesn’t quite cook up the thriller you were hoping for.
