Diljit Dosanjh Faces Backlash Over "Panjab" Spelling, Responds on Social Media

Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh recently found himself at the center of controversy after his post announcing a concert in Chandigarh included the spelling "Panjab" instead of the widely used "Punjab." The incident sparked criticism, with many social media users pointing out that "Panjab" is typically associated with the Pakistani side of the region. Adding fuel to the fire, fans noticed that Diljit also omitted the Indian tricolour emoji that is usually included in his other concert-related posts, raising suspicions of potential political undertones.

The controversy quickly escalated, with some accusing the artist of having political motives behind his post. In response to the backlash, Diljit took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to clarify his position and dismiss the conspiracy theories.

In a lengthy post, Diljit addressed the criticism head-on, writing, “Punjabi, Kisi ek Tweet Mai Agar Punjab ke Saath Flag Mention Reh Gaya Toh Conspiracy, BENGALURU ke Tweet Mai bhi Ek Jagha Reh Gaya Thaa Mention Karna..Agar Punjab Ko PANJAB Likha toh Conspiracy, PANJAB Ko Chaye PUNJAB likho..Punjab Punjab Hee Rehna, Panj Aab - 5 Rivers, Goreya di Language English De Spellings Te Conspiracy Karn Waleya Shaabash.”

He further stated, “Main Tan Future ch Punjabi ch Likheya Karna, Tusi Ni Hatna Mainu Pata.. Laggey Raho, Kini Vaar Prove Kariye that, We LOVE INDIA, KOI NAVI GAL KARO YAAR, YAAN TUANU TASK HEE EH MILEYA? .”

Through this message, Diljit strongly dismissed the theories linking his spelling choice to any political agenda, emphasizing his love and respect for India. He also hinted at switching to writing in Punjabi in the future, expressing frustration with the unnecessary controversies. His message ended with a lighthearted tone, calling out the critics as "Vehley" (idle), asking them to focus on more meaningful matters.

Despite the controversy, Diljit remains focused on his professional commitments. He is currently nearing the end of his Dil-Luminati India tour, with his next performance scheduled in Mumbai on December 19. The tour will conclude on December 29 with a grand concert in Guwahati, marking the end of what has been an incredibly successful series of performances across the country.

Fans of Diljit, however, continue to show their unwavering support, defending the artist and his intention to promote positivity and love for India, irrespective of the online chatter.
