Agartala, Dec 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) In separate operations, Border Security Force (BSF) troopers apprehended a Nigerian national, three Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian tout in Tripura on Monday, officials said.
A BSF spokesman said that acting on specific intelligence input, a checkpoint was set up at Kaiyedhepa in Sepahijala district following which a Nigerian national identified as Maxwel Nweke (34) was apprehended.
The Nigerian national was found moving suspiciously along the India-Bangladesh border road, attempting to enter Bangladesh from India.
Based on information provided by the Nigerian national, BSF troopers also arrested an Indian tout, Suraj Prasad, a resident of Amtali in West Tripura district, who was fleeing the spot on a motorcycle.
Prasad is a listed tout and BSF has been actively tracking him, the spokesman said.
In another operation, the BSF personnel apprehended a 15-year-old Bangladeshi girl from Mangroli in North Tripura district.
The girl was attempting to infiltrate into India by crossing the border fence.
The teenager told the BSF that she is a resident of Chandpur village in Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh.
In the fourth operation with a sister agency in Agartala, BSF apprehended two more Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, in West Tripura.
Both individuals are residents of Bagerhat district of Bangladesh.
The spokesman said that the BSF has intensified its domination and operations along the 856 km India-Bangladesh border in Tripura to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, and trans-border crimes including smuggling of contrabands.
Over the last four months, over 560 Bangladeshi nationals and over 63 Rohingyas were arrested by the Government Railway Police, Border Security Force (BSF), and Tripura Police from the Agartala railway station and various other places in Tripura after they illegally entered India.
So far, this year (in 2024), 55 Rohingyas among 700 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh apprehended in Tripura and various contraband worth around Rs 50 crore has been seized by BSF alone.
