Good stories, if done right, can resonate anywhere, and we are very proud of our film ‘Girls will be Girls’ says Ali Fazal

Actors Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha have turned producers with their much-awaited coming-of-age film Girls Will Be Girls. The trailer of the film was unveiled today in Mumbai, ahead of its global streaming release on Prime Video on December 18.

The film, which is set in the 90s, explores the dynamics of mother-daughter relationships, as well as the complexities of teenage love and friendship. It takes audiences on a nostalgic journey, touching on themes of growth, confusion, and self-discovery that are integral to adolescence.

Ali Fazal who turned producer with this one expressed the gravity of the project, saying, "This was a very big responsibility and telling this story was an even bigger responsibility. Because it’s a very delicate story... a story of a mother and daughter and the relationship between a boy and a girl. It’s a coming-of-age story, a young story, and set in the 90s. There’s a nostalgic value to it, and I believe audiences will connect with it. Good stories, if done right, can resonate anywhere, and we are very proud of it."

Ali and Richa highlighted how the setting of the 90s was essential to the story. He said,  "The film is written and directed by Suchi Talati, who drew inspiration from her own life experiences in the 90s. In an era where mobile phones and social media were not distractions, the boarding school environment created a unique sense of cultural claustrophobia, making it a fertile ground for exploring human relationships. It was a different world. A closed environment where relationships between people were built in a very different way ", he added.

For both Fazal and Chadha, this project was not just about making a film but about bringing a story to life that resonates deeply with personal and emotional experiences.

Girls Will Be Girls is expected to tug at the heartstrings of viewers with its relatable themes, a perfect blend of nostalgia and universal emotion.

The film will begin streaming on Prime Video starting December 18, 2024.
