Ila Arun Reflects on Vidya Balan’s Kindness at Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest

The second day of Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest was marked by a heartwarming session titled Celebrating Women: The Shashi Baliga Memorial Session — My Medley, which saw bibliophiles and literary enthusiasts gather to celebrate women in literature and the arts. The session was chaired by Gaurav Sharma and featured an insightful discussion with Vidya Balan, Anjula Bedi, and Ila Arun, focusing on the latter’s autobiography, Parde Ke Peechhey.

During the panel, Ila Arun shared her deep admiration for Vidya Balan, who had launched her book Parde Ke Peechhey earlier in the event. Speaking with great affection, Ila said, “Everybody knows Vidya Balan, she is lively. I have worked with her in three movies, and I haven’t seen anyone as mature, bubbly, and sensitive as her. Even with manner and tradition, she is full of life, she is a gypsy. I like her a lot.”

Ila went on to express her gratitude for Vidya’s support, highlighting how the actress agreed to launch her book without hesitation. “When I asked her to launch my book, she said yes within a minute. I will remember it for the rest of my life, and the way she had fun with me on stage, I will never forget it. (Kisi Bhi Bhool Bhulaiyaa Main Nahi Bhulungi),” Ila added, referencing their memorable collaborations in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise.

The special bond between Ila and Vidya was palpable throughout the session. Ila described Vidya as not just a talented actress, but someone with a big heart and an infectious energy that made her a joy to work with. “If you look at experience and stature, Vidya is bigger than me, even though she is younger,” Ila remarked, a testament to the deep respect she holds for Vidya’s professional achievements and personal qualities.

The session, which celebrated the life and work of women in the arts, was a fitting tribute to the powerful voices shaping Indian literature and cinema. As the discussion unfolded, it became clear that both Ila Arun and Vidya Balan share a genuine admiration for each other, and their friendship was one of the highlights of the event.

Parde Ke Peechhey is a candid, engaging read that offers an inside look into Ila Arun’s life and career. With Vidya Balan’s heartfelt launch and the session at the LitFest, the book is sure to resonate with readers and fans alike. As the event concluded, it was evident that both women continue to inspire those around them, creating lasting impressions both on and off the screen.
