Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor Respond to POCSO Act Case

In the wake of a case filed against Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, under the POCSO Act, their production company, Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited, has released a clarification addressing the allegations. The case stems from accusations of depicting explicit content involving juvenile girls in the web series "Gandi Baat."

The Mumbai Police initiated the case against the Kapoors after receiving complaints regarding the series, which reportedly includes inappropriate scenes featuring minors. In response to these serious allegations, Alt Balaji issued a statement affirming its compliance with all relevant laws, including the POCSO Act.

The company’s statement emphasized, “With reference to various media reports regarding the Web Series - 'Gandi Baat', ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act, and any references to the engagement of minors by the Company are entirely incorrect.”

Additionally, the statement noted that Shobha and Ekta Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company. Instead, these operations are managed by separate teams, including those responsible for content strategy.

The statement continued, “The Company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Since the matter is sub-judice, the Company refrains from commenting in detail.”

The case against the Kapoors was filed on October 20, and they were called for initial questioning on October 22. Reports indicate that they are expected to appear for further questioning on October 24, as per the Mumbai Police's directives.

As the investigation continues, the Kapoors and Alt Balaji are navigating a challenging situation that highlights the complexities of content creation in the digital age, particularly concerning the portrayal of minors.
