The Sabarmati Report Is A Tribute To The Forgotten Says Vikrant Massey

Actor Vikrant Massey is gearing up for a powerful role in the upcoming film The Sabarmati Report, where he plays a news reporter investigating a crucial incident in Indian history. The film, directed by Dheeraj Sarna, is based on the Godhra train burning incident of 2002 and aims to highlight the significant yet often overlooked role of the media in conveying the truth.

Massey emphasized the importance of this narrative, particularly for younger audiences. “There is very little information about this incident out there, especially the youth of today, who don't really know what happened 22 years ago,” he explained. “This incident changed our history and society forever. This is our attempt that we share this story with people, those 59 people whom people have forgotten about unfortunately. This is our tribute to them from our side.”

The film strives to inform audiences about an event that has had lasting implications on Indian society. By framing the story around the experiences of those affected, The Sabarmati Report seeks to honor their memory while educating viewers about the facts surrounding the tragedy.

Massey went on to discuss the film’s hard-hitting nature and the role of media in shaping public perception. “It is a hard-hitting film,” he said. “What took place 22 years ago on 27th Feb, now unfortunately people don’t know much about it. The role media plays in our society is crucial; a common man reads the newspaper or watches news on TV, hoping that this is his way of knowing the truth. Sometimes it does happen that the media doesn’t fully show the truth, the whole truth responsibly, and the kind of effect that has in society is something we have tried to highlight in this story.”

Through this narrative, the film aims to critique the media's responsibility in reporting the truth, urging audiences to think critically about the information they consume.

Alongside Vikrant Massey, the film features Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra in significant roles. The trio is set to bring depth to a story that not only aims to entertain but also to provoke thought and discussion about an important chapter in Indian history. The film is slated for a theatrical release on November 15, 2024.
