Autonomous vehicles could pick up, store and transport samples of the Moon and Mars, according to a new space rover trial.
Plane-maker Airbus says it's successfully trialled the world's first rover to include a fully autonomous, robotic arm, with the capability of doing tasks previously only possible by astronauts on the ground or from Earth.
Two prototypes have been put through a series of rigorous tests at a sand quarry in Hertfordshire, England, in an effort to autonomise space research.
