Mukti Mohan on “A Wedding Story”: From Intriguing Title to Haunting Reality

Mukti Mohan, a renowned dancer and performer, has ventured into the world of cinema with her upcoming film, A Wedding Story. The film, which delves into the unsettling intersection of marriage and horror, has piqued the curiosity of audiences and critics alike. The film’s title, A Wedding Story, initially led Mohan to expect a classic narrative of romance and drama. “When I got the call, and they told me the title, A Wedding Story, I thought it was a wedding story, there will be romance and drama for sure, but I wasn’t expecting horror at all,” Mohan shared. Her initial reaction was one of surprise, as the film’s premise took a turn towards the supernatural, defying the conventional expectations set by its title.

 

Mohan recounts her first encounter with the film’s concept, describing it as a gripping experience. “I remember going through the narration and I couldn’t even blink and I thought, is that even true,” she said. The film’s unique blend of genres not only intrigued her but also challenged her understanding of reality and fiction.

 

The narrative of A Wedding Story revolves around a seemingly joyous marriage that quickly devolves into a nightmarish scenario as eerie events begin to plague both families involved. For Mohan, this was not just a role but an exploration of unsettling realities. “Forget googling, my father is an ardent reader, and he knows everything about Geeta, and when I asked him if this is possible, and he said yes, it is true and this has been happening for a very long time and you cannot question it,” Mohan explained. Her father’s validation of the film’s premise added a layer of authenticity to her experience and further fueled her curiosity.

 

Mohan’s personal journey with the film was marked by an internal struggle to reconcile with the unsettling themes presented. “Over time I became so intrigued and curious about this topic, and then I personally experience in my life,” she noted. The challenge of depicting such a profound and disturbing narrative required Mohan to navigate her own feelings of disbelief and turmoil. “See you don’t expect something like this happening to you, but when things go wrong how do you make sense of what is real and what is not,” she mused. This introspection was pivotal in her portrayal of the film’s complex emotional landscape.

 

A Wedding Story features a talented ensemble cast including Mukti Mohan, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Lakshvir Singh Saran, Monica Chaudhary, Akshay Anand, Dr. Plom Khurana, and Piloo Vidyarthi. Directed by Abhinav Pareek and produced by Vinay Reddy, the film promises to offer a unique cinematic experience. Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee wrote and produced the film under Boundless Blackbuck Films production.
