The announcement came with a striking new poster shared by the official Avatar social media handle. The caption excitedly teased: “Just announced at #D23, our title for the next Avatar film: Avatar: Fire and Ash. Get ready to journey back to Pandora, in theaters December 19, 2025.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the story from 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which explored the ongoing conflict between humanity and the Na'vi following the return of the Resources Development Administration (RDA) to Pandora. In the previous film, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) defended their home and the aquatic Metkayina clan from a brutal RDA assault. Their victory came at a high cost, with their eldest son being tragically killed in the conflict.
As revealed, Fire and Ash will pick up shortly after these events, delving deeper into the fallout from the RDA’s continued presence on Pandora. The film will introduce the "Ash People," a new clan of Na'vi characterized by their inclination towards violence and power, contrasting with the more harmonious clans seen previously.
James Cameron, who shot Fire and Ash back-to-back with The Way of Water, continues to expand on the rich world of Pandora. The film’s impressive cast includes returning stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet, as well as new additions David Thewlis, Oona Chaplin, and Michelle Yeoh.
With high expectations following the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: Fire and Ash is poised to offer an epic continuation of the franchise's story, further exploring the complex dynamics of Pandora and its inhabitants.
