Siddharth Malhotra was interacting with the media to celebrate the success of his new movie Maharaj.
When asked about important elements of filmmaking, Siddharth said, “Writers play the biggest role in movie making, there is nothing bigger than writers. If your written script is not good, you can never really take it to the next level. Writing is the foundation, so is the editing. My writers and editors are pillars of my movie. Writing has to be good; the director might take it to the next level or not, but good writing is paramount.”
Maharaj marked the acting debut of Junaid Khan, the son of superstar Aamir Khan, the film also features Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari, and Shalini Pandey.
Talking about Maharaj, and its writing journey, Siddharth said, “I did Hichki, it turned out well, then my writer friend Vipul Mehta, who wrote the script of Maharaj, he made a Gujarati play on this story, and it was also titled Maharaj based on Saurabh Shah’s book. I purchased the rights to the book, and I had to convince Vipul to let me make this film.”
“Vipul Mehta and Sneha Desai wrote the script. We worked on the script, whatever objectionable items were there in the book, we got rid of them in the movie, the first we wrote was 160 pages, it was long, and we had to shorten it, and then we took the idea of Aditya Chopra, who greenlit the project” added Siddharth.
The film is the second project under a multi-genre partnership between Netflix and YRF. The first component was the hit series “The Railway Men,” a four-episode drama about the unsung heroes of the Bhopal gas tragedy.
