Baseball becomes a shelter for Venezuelan children in soccer crazy Peru (Video)

When Venezuelan children on the outskirts of the Peruvian capital hit their baseballs and throw themselves onto a soccer pitch turned diamond as they try to score points, locals find it strange.

Still, the young immigrants continue to play as the sport reinforces a strong bond between more than about 1 million of them living in Lima and their embattled motherland nation by the Caribbean.

The vast majority of the 10 million people living in Lima's region are crazy about soccer.

But immigrants, chiefly Venezuelan, have managed to open five baseball academies in the city to keep the sport alive. (AP video/Cesar Barreto)
