SLB Told Me He Can Smell Mogra While Jamming On Meena Kumari’s Poetry Says Richa Chadha

Richa Chadha is all praises for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, says he has such a unique way of thinking, he can smell flowers while remembering Meena Kumari’s poetry.

In a panel discussion with the cast of Heeramandi, Richa was asked to share about working tips with SLB, and she said, “I had discussions with SLB, he gave me my character brief, and we found this album of Meena Kumari’s poetry in her own voice, it’s called I write, I recite, and we kind of jammed on it, discussing things like tone of the voice, the rhythm, the lyrical quality, and SLB was like, when I hear her voice, I can smell Mogra”

“Now see, for me that’s also direction, this man, who is a genius, he is hearing this voice and his visuals he gets is of a certain scape, which he has matched in the show, but he is also smelling something, that is such a unique way to think.”

“If you’re lucky enough to work with SLB, the brief he gives you, stick to it like a bible, and leave room for magic. Let spontaneous things happen, you can develop something, like I developed this weird and delusional giggle” added Richa.

'Heeramandi : The Diamond Bazaar' is a period drama series created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The series is about the lives of tawaifs at the red -light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore, during the Indian Independence Movement against the British Raj. The series is currently streaming on Netflix.
