Followers of YSRCP MLA booked for violence at police station

Vijayawada, April 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Police in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district on Wednesday registered a case against followers of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLA Perni Nani in connection with Tuesday's violent protest at a police station.

The former minister, along with his supporters, had gone to Chilakalapudi Police Station after a sub-inspector allegedly thrashed some YSRCP workers arrested in connection with a clash with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers.

The YSRCP leaders alleged that SI Chanakya along with another SI and constable assaulted YSRCP workers in front of a TDP leader.

The YSRCP leaders condemned the police action and had an argument with the police officials allegedly involved. They demanded that SI and others responsible be suspended. They also allegedly ransacked CCTV cameras and furniture. The protest had led to a tense situation. Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors with an assurance to conduct an inquiry.

On Wednesday, police registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 188 (Disobedience to order promulgated by a public servant), section 143 (unlawful assembly) and section 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees or upwards) against Perni Nani’s supporters.

Section 188 was invoked as section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code is in force in view of Model Code of Conduct for the elections.

Tuesday's incident was linked to a recent clash between workers of the two parties at Ullipalem village during a local fair.

YSRCP leaders alleged that workers who were injured in the clash were summoned to the police station after they were discharged from hospital and they were allegedly beaten up.
