You Cannot Serve Bad Content To Audience These Days Says Milan Luthria

Filmmaker Milan Luthria, who recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his mega-hit Kachche Dhaage, said that the times have changed, nowadays you cannot serve bad content to the audience.

From being an assistant director to one of the leading forces in commercial cinema, Milan Luthria has seen an ever-evolving landscape of filmmaking from 70mm to OTT generation.

When asked about ever changing filmmaking process, Milan said, “Taken for granted kind of work is rejected by this generation outright, back in the days, audience was a little bit patient if the movie had their favorite star, but nowadays, audience is pretty clear, if you give us good content, we will make sure to take it to the skies, but if you serve us bad content, we have plenty of ways to do a lot to it.”

Drawing parallel with recent mega hits, Gadar 2 and Pathan, Milan said Kachche Dhaage had the right combination of action and music. He said, “Action and Music combination usually find success, pick any movie which has a great combination of both, they work. Last year, Gadar 2 and Pathan released, they both had the right combination of action and music, and if you add a dash of humor in it, the film works, and same thing my movie Kachche Dhaage had, hence it worked.”

Kachche Dhaage starred Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Manisha Koirala. The film was a box office success grossing 277 million at the domestic box office in 1999.

Milan has been frequent collaborator with Ajay Decgn, when asked about it, he added, “Sometimes it does so happen, with me and all the other director from my time, that they find a good combination with one actor, in my case it was Ajay Devgn”

“There is a lot of trust between him and me, the kind of film I make, or the kind of character I design, that actor fits perfectly. When I met Ajay for the first time, he was a hero and I was an assistant, but from day one, we got along well, we have the same sensibilities.”
