Aankh Micholi - Slapstick Comedy with Forced Humor, Falls Short as an Entertainer
Director: Umesh Shukla
Cast: Paresh Rawal, Abhimanyu Dassani, Mrunal Thakur, Sharman Joshi, Abhishek Banerjee, Divya Dutta, Darshan Jariwala, Grusha Kapoor, Vijay Raaz
Aankh Micholi revolves around a peculiar family from Hoshiyarpur, Punjab, led by a forgetful Ayurvedic doctor, Navjot Singh (Paresh Rawal). The family's quirky members include a hard-of-hearing older son, Yuvraj (Sharman Joshi), a stuttering younger son, Harbhajan (Abhishek Banerjee), and a daughter, Paro (Mrunal Thakur), who has night blindness. As the family attempts to find suitable life partners for Paro and Bhajji, a series of funny situations unfold, involving misunderstandings and attempts to keep their peculiarities a secret.
Directed by Umesh Shukla, the film introduces various comedic elements within the family dynamics, including miscommunications and rivalries with a neighboring family. However, the narrative lacks a compelling punch, and the humor often feels forced. The movie takes time to bring forth the main plot, and until then, it relies on the family's shenanigans to entertain the audience. Once the central story unfolds, the jokes and situations struggle to land effectively, and the forced nature of the humor becomes apparent.
While the film features some one-liners and scenes that elicit laughs, the overall execution fails to engage the audience consistently. Paresh Rawal's performance as the absent-minded Ayurvedic doctor is decent but may not always come across as convincing. Abhishek Banerjee delivers a notable performance in his role. Divya Dutta, playing the daughter-in-law Billo, adds a sweet yet cunning dimension to her character, attempting to teach the family a lesson for their deceitful actions.
Mrunal Thakur and Abhimanyu Dassani perform adequately in their roles, but the characters could have been developed more effectively. The movie may find appeal among fans of slapstick comedies, but the over-the-top situations and lack of a strong storyline contribute to its shortcomings as an entertainer.
Aankh Micholi attempts to blend humor with family dynamics but falls short of delivering a memorable and engaging cinematic experience.
