Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga – A Gripping Heist Thriller with Twists and Turns

Director: Ajay Singh

Cast: Yami Gautam, Sunny Kaushal, Sharad Kelkar, Indraneil Sengupta, Barun Chanda

Rating: 3

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, directed by Ajay Singh and available on Netflix, is a heist thriller that manages to keep the audience hooked with its suspenseful plot and unexpected twists. While the film may not be groundbreaking in terms of content, it successfully blends elements of a commercial Hindi film, featuring a hero, a complex plot, and a supporting cast with room to perform.

The story revolves around Ankit Sethi (Sunny Kaushal), who is badly injured and being questioned by the police about a hijacked flight. Flight attendant Neha Grover (Yami Gautam) recalls their past romance and the plan they hatched to steal diamonds worth ₹120 crore being smuggled on a flight. However, their plan takes an unexpected turn when the plane gets hijacked. As chaos ensues 40,000 feet in the air, the couple must navigate uninvited guests and unforeseen challenges. The film explores whether they can successfully execute their plan or if there's more to the story than they realize.

"Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga" manages to maintain a gripping narrative throughout its runtime of a little less than two hours. Despite the suspense and tension, the film never feels overly lengthy or stretched. The direction by Ajay Singh captures the intensity within the confines of a hijacked plane, creating an engaging atmosphere. The mid-air shots, both inside and outside the plane, contribute to the chaos and add a layer of visual intensity.

While the writing by Shiraz Ahmed, Amar Kaushik, and Raj Kumar Gupta is passable, the film's direction often compensates for any shortcomings. The dialogue lacks a punch, but clever direction helps overlook minor loose ends in the script. Gianni Giannelli's cinematography enhances the film's intensity, and Charu Thakkar's crisp editing keeps the narrative focused.

Yami Gautam stands out with a well-written and fleshed-out character. She delivers a confident and convincing performance, showcasing her range in emotional and sassy moments. Sunny Kaushal complements her well, although there is room for improvement in terms of screen presence. The onscreen romance, while playing a crucial role in the story, lacks the spark expected in terms of chemistry.

Supporting actors like Sharad Kelkar, playing RAW Deputy Shaikh, add depth to the film. Kelkar's gravitas and ease in portraying his character are highlights, even though his screen time is limited. Indraneil Sengupta, as flight marshal Sushandhu Roy, feels underutilized, with his character being the most half-baked in the narrative.

"Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga" manages to entertain with its suspenseful plot, keeping viewers engaged until the climax. While it may not offer groundbreaking content, the film's unexpected twists and the performance of Yami Gautam make it worth a one-time watch. The film successfully combines elements of a heist thriller with the dynamics of a hijacked plane, delivering an engaging cinematic experience. "Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga" is now streaming on Netflix
