Delhi L-G unveils restored heritage structures at Mehrauli Archaeological Park

New Delhi, Oct 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) In line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi', a significant step toward conserving Delhi's rich heritage, and ancient glory, Lt Governor VK Saxena on Friday unvelied the restored heritage structures at the Mehrauli Archaeological Park.

The unveiling ceremony saw the presence of Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for Culture, and Subhasish Panda, Vice Chairman of the DDA.

The planning and execution of this project, under the eye of the L-G, involved numerous coordination meetings to address pending issues and ensure seamless cooperation among various departments.

"Due to the consistent monitoring and site inspections by the L-G, all works were completed in record time," an official said.

Saxena expressed his satisfaction, stating: "Within 6 to 7 months, this place has transformed. People of Delhi deserve good places where they can spend leisure time with their family, and we are making all efforts to revive heritage places."

The project, valued at approximately Rs 2.6 crore, represents a commitment to providing the citizens of Delhi with rejuvenated leisure spaces, a statement noted.

The Mehrauli Archaeological Park now showcases a range of restored and conserved heritage structures, including the Balban's Tomb complex, which was once overgrown with weeds.

The landscaping has been improved, and additional greenery surrounds the restored historic structures. Moreover, vantage points have been created to offer mesmerising views of the Qutub Minar from the park.

Similarly, the Quli Khan Tomb, which was previously in a state of disrepair, has undergone restoration, including intricate interior work.

These monuments have been interconnected with pathways, providing access to all 55 heritage structures within the park.

A rejuvenated water body near the Metcalfe Boathouse features aerator fountains, cascades, and illumination, adding to the park's charm.

Important heritage structures and monuments have also been illuminated to accentuate their historical significance.

Adequate public amenities have been put in place to ensure visitors can enjoy their leisure time in the park.

The restoration and conservation work adheres to heritage conservation principles, maintaining the authenticity and structural integrity of the structures.

Moreover, suitable adaptive reuses have been proposed to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the historical and cultural value of these heritage structures.

The conservation of St James Church and the Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti Renewal are among the other projects recently undertaken by DDA.
