Kolkata, Oct 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two villagers were killed in a rogue elephant attack in West Bengal's Jhargram district on Wednesday.
The victims identified as Ananda Jana (73) and Shashadhar Mahato (60) lived in villaged under the Nayagram Police Station.
Confirming the development, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Kharagpur division, Shibananda Ram said the tusker also completely destroyed a motorcycle parked in the area.
According to information, a six-month baby elephant drowned on Wednesday morning when a herd of 11 tuskers was crossing the Subarnarekha River.
While the other tuskers left the place, the mother elephant refused to leave and she became further agitated when locals in the area assembled.
As a result, she started chasing the people and in the process the two victims lost their lives.
“It seems that the baby elephant died by drowning while the herd was crossing the river. This made the mother elephant violent and out of irritation she killed two local villagers who assembled there at that point of time. The matter will be looked into and the victims’ families will be provided with compensation,” the DFO said.
