'The subject of espionage has not been dealt well by the Indian Filmmakers', Vishal Bhardwaj

Vishal Bhardwaj who has given us films like Haider, Maqbool, Omkara has made his OTT debut recently with the series 'Charlie Chopra &The Mystery of Solang Valley' and now the spy thriller film 'Khufiya' said that the subject of espionage has not been dealt well by the Indian Filmmakers.

Vishal Bhardwaj 'two projects 'Charlie Chopra & The Mystery of Solang Valley' and 'Khufiya' have been released back to back on OTT platforms. The director was seen addressing the people at the India Today Conclave on 5th October in Mumbai alongside the cast of his film Khufiya. Here he spoke about OTT and Theatres as two different mediums of entertainment and what excited him to make a spy thriller film like Khufiya.

Talking about OTT and Theatres, he said, "They are two different mediums. Both are giving you opportunities to tell stories but the stories are divided now. Audience viewing habits have changed after the pandemic.

If you want your audience to come to the theatres, your film must offer something really interesting that would not give the same experience to the audience while watching the film in their homes. It is an expensive affair to go and watch a film in a theatre. "

Talking about what excited him to make a film like Khufiya, he said, "This book was written by Amar Bhushan who was the head of the espionage unit of the Research & Analysis wing of our country. When I read the book I was so fascinated by that world, their work atmosphere. When we make spy films, we forget that they are also human beings. I feel the subject of espionage has not been dealt well by the Indian Filmmakers."

Khufiya is a spy thriller film written, produced and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The film is based on Amar Bhushan's espionage novel Escape to Nowhere. It stars Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi and Ali Fazal. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.
