Bhopal, Sep 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Congress general secretary and in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Randeep Surjewala on Wednesday slammed the ruling BJP in the state after an elderly tribal man was allegedly beaten with slipper by a BJP worker in Anuppur district.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Surjewala pointed out various incidents of atrocities against tribals reported in the last two years in Madhya Pradesh.
"I am shocked to see that a person whose relative is lying dead on roadside due to an accident, is being betane by sleep by a BJP worker. This is really horrific and heart wrenching," he said.
Surjewala hit out at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, saying his government failed to protect the rights of the tribals.
"I would hold CM Chouhan responsible for such an incident and would ask him to resign from the post on moral ground. BJP workers are urinating on a tribal man's face, beating with slippers. Such incidents have ashamed not only Madhya Pradesh but the entire country," the Congress leader added.
During the press conference, Surjewala highlighted a long list of incidents against the tribals in Madhya Pradesh. Notably, the Congress has been cornering the ruling BJP over tribal-related issues.
Madhya Pradesh unit Congress President Kamal Nath would often mention the NCRB's report regarding the atrocities against tribals in Madhya Pradesh.
On Monday, addressing a gathering of tribals in Bhopal, Kamal Nath stated "tribals have Congress DNA and he trusts them most".
Condemning Anuppur's incident, Kamal Nath said: "CM Chauhan, you cannot ignore this gruesome video. Next to the dead body of a tribal man in Anuppur district, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader is seen beating another tribal man with slippers. The BJP is becoming a party of tribal atrocities in Madhya Pradesh."
In a viral video, BJP's Ganesh Dikshit, who is 'Mandal Adhyaksh' of Anuppur district, was seen beating a tribal with his slipper in the presence of over 20 people.
As per the reports, Barnu Singh (60) was driving a two-wheeler with his relative Bhoma Singh (55) as pillion-rider when they were hit by a speeding mini-truck.
Bhoma Singh received fatal injuries to his head and died on the spot.
Locals rushed to the spot. Ganesh Dikshit also reached there.
In the viral video, Dikshit is seen asking about the dead person lying on the road. Barnu Singh, who was shocked after the incident, could not reply, which made Dikshit furious and he started beating him up with his slipper.
Some people tried to stop him, but he kept beating the man furiously.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and the local police claimed to have registered a case against Dikshit and some other people.
However, the police are yet to arrest the accused persons.
