Action Rooted In Emotion Works Says Bejoy Nambiar

Mumbai, 1st September 2023 (Newshelpline) - Filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar, who is known for making quirky and intense action thrillers, said action rooted in emotion makes the narrative more effective.

Bejoy Nambiar was interacting with Newshelpline during the trailer launch of Disney Plus Hotstar’s new series Kaala, based on reverse Hawala.

When asked about his signature style of filmmaking, and infusing emotion into action oriented thrillers, Bejoy said, “I don’t think any action sequence you can design as the part of the narrative, it will never work if it’s not backed by emotion. I am a strong believer of that, as much as you can see, I am comfortable doing action thrillers, but my favourite genre is drama, I believe if the story and character works, it will connect with the audience. Rest of the things are like dressing, the action and thrill part of it is just to make sure the story is more effective.”

“This is something my mentor, Vidhu Vinod Chopra taught me, whenever you’re writing an action scene, make sure it is rooted heavily into the emotions. You can blast a car, or anything, if it is rooted in emotions, it will hit harder. I am a strong believer of that” added Bejoy.

With actors venturing into different mediums and braving challenging characters, Bijoy said, “The lines are blurring, you know, even with story telling our appetite have expanded by telling different kind of stories, so automatically, when the audience is accepting different kind of stories, actors and directors are taking on different kind of challenging roles”

The Disney Plus Hotstar action thriller stars Avinash Tiwary, Taher Shabbir, Jitin Gulati, Hiten Tejwani, Rohan Vinod Mehra, and Elisha Mayor. It is all set to start streaming on September 15.
