Gurugram, Aug 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rolls Royce involved in the Delhi Mumbai expressway accident that claimed two lives and injured four near Nub Umri's village was being driven at 200 km per hour, which caused the crash, police said.
The luxury car's estimated cost is around Rs 10 crore and was registered with a private firm.
A senior police official of the Nuh police requesting anonymity said, "It was part of a private convoy of a businessman of a big group. The matter is under probe."
The complainant Munil Yadav in his statement to Gurugram Police said around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, a truck carrying three people, identified as Rampreet, Kuldeep a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Gautam Kumar, a resident of Nuh overturned after being hit by the car from the rear at a very high speed. The collision was so powerful that the overturned truck and the car caught fire.
The truck was ferrying oil for gensets along the national highway and was employed by the NHAI.
"I was in another truck and 300 meters behind when the accident took place. The accident occurred when the car hit the rear side diesel tank of the tanker. In the collision, the tanker driver lost control over the wheels and the vehicle overturned injuring the truck occupants," the complaint told IANS.
Thereafter, another vehicle came in and several bouncers stepped out from the vehicle took three car occupants and went towards Delhi. There were several SUVs in the convoy, he said.
"I immediately rushed the inured Rampreet, Kuldeep, and Gautam to Nalhad medical college in Nuh where Rampreet and Kuldeep were declared dead while Gautam was undergoing treatment, he said.
The occupants of the car are being treated at a Gurugram hospital. They have been identified as Divya and Tasbir from Chandigarh, and Vikas from Delhi.
"An FIR under IPC sections 279, 337, and 304A has been registered against an unknown person at Nagina police station. The victim's statements are yet to be recorded. We will initiate action against those guilty in the accident," Ashok Kumar, the investigating officer of the case, told reporters.
He further said those in the tanker were regulars on this route and both vehicles were coming from Delhi when the crash occurred.
"The police's initial inquiry revealed that the car was at very high speed which led to the accident but we are collecting more evidence," he stated.
Meanwhile, it is being said that the tanker was proceeding towards the Delhi side and it stopped there and waited to make a U-turn. The road was clear and the truck started turning but the car was traveling so fast... the control room recorded its speed as over 200 km per hour."
"There is space for a U-turn at the accident site but we are still establishing the sequence of events. We are presently taking the statements of those injured and will go to the Gurugram hospital for this soon," the investigation officer further said.
Superintendent of Police Nuh, Narendra Bijarnia was not available for comments.
