Firefighters in Italy continued to battle new wildfires in southern Italy even as temperatures were slowly dropping. The record heat that gripped central and southern Italy in July causing wildfires in vast areas of the peninsula was replaced by average seasonal temperatures which dropped by about 13 degrees Celsius (by about 23 degrees Fahrenheit) into the low- and mid-30s C (high 80s F).
