Justice D. K. Upadhyaya sworn-in as new CJ of Bombay High Court

Mumbai, July 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais administered the oath of office to Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya as the new Chief Justice of Bombay High Court at the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday evening.

 Present on the occasion were the Governor’s wife Rambai Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Speaker Rahul Narwekar, ministers, judges of the Bombay and Allahabad High Courts and other senior officials.

 

Chief Secretary Manoj Saunik read out the Warrant of Appointment of the new Chief Justice issued by the President Droupadi Murmu.

The swearing in ceremony started with the National Anthem and State Anthem and concluded with the National Anthem played by the police band.

CJ R.D. Dhanuka had retired on May 30, after which Justice Nitin M. Jamdar was the Acting CJ of Bombay HC, which has a current strength of 66 judges.

Born on June 16, 1965, Justice Upadhyaya graduated in Law from the Lucknow University in 1991 and enrolled as an advocate on May 11, 1991. As a lawyer, he practiced civil and constitutional sides at the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench. He was promoted as Additional Judge in November 2011 and appointed as Permanent Judge in Aug. 2013, and was a senior judge at the Allahabad High Court till now.
