Waterlogging, traffic congestion reported at 24 locations in Delhi after heavy rains

New Delhi, July 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) After a substantial downpour in the national capital on Thursday, 24 locations in the city experienced water logging, resulting in extensive traffic congestion, a Delhi Traffic Police official said.

According to officials, the water logging was reported at Pusa Road, Shamshan Ghat Ring Road, Azad Market, Tikri Border, Pragati Maidan, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Purana Quila Road, Utsav Ground, IGI Road, Adhchini Red Light, Hamdard T Point, Maharani Bagh (both sides), MB Road, GTK Depot, Ring Road Bhairon Road under flyover, Kapashera to Rajokri Mata Din Marg, and Sarita Vihar underpass, among others.

In a statement traffic cops said that on Thursday, heavy rainfall in the morning caused significant water logging, leading to severe traffic congestion.

"Reports of traffic jams, malfunctioning traffic signals, and water logging flooded the Traffic Control Room. Power outages occurred in various parts of the city, rendering traffic signals non-functional. Traffic personnel were deployed to manually regulate traffic at signalised intersections," it said.

“To address the situation, the Traffic Control Room swiftly dispatched messages to all Deputy Commissioners of Police/Traffic-Ranges, Assistant Commissioners of Police/Traffic-Districts, and Traffic Inspectors/Circles. They were instructed to mobilise a maximum number of staff, motorcycle patrol teams, and cranes to manually control traffic at intersections without power supply. Their tasks included removing stranded vehicles and restoring the normal flow of traffic,” said a senior Delhi Traffic Police official.

Additionally, messages were transmitted through the Traffic Control Room to the control rooms of other civic agencies, such as the Horticulture Departments of NDMC, PWD, MCD, etc. “These agencies were urged to utilise local resources and manpower to address the situation promptly and efficiently,” said the official. “The operations are still ongoing, and assistance from other departments is being coordinated to tackle the situation effectively,” the official added.
