The accused, identified as Anurag Sharma, was wanted and a declared ‘Proclaimed Offender'.

The official said that Sharma is involved in multi-mortgaging the properties at Federal bank, Dena bank, Indiabulls, availing credit limits and also selling to one Dincur Bajaj.

According to police, a complaint was received from senior manager of the Federal Bank, Nehru Place Branch wherein it was alleged that Succespath Marketing Pvt Ltd and its directors Anurag Sharma and Hitesh Kumar had availed credit facilities/loan of amount Rs 2.5 crore from the complainant bank for business purposes.

“The loan documents and agreement were executed between bank and borrowers. The loan amount was secured through mortgage of two properties located at Shahdara. The alleged persons defaulted in EMIs and their account become NPA in 2018. When the bank initiated proceedings under Sarfeshi Act for possession of the property, it came to their knowledge that Dena Bank had also initiated the same proceedings,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW) M I Haider.

Further when Federal Bank initiated proceedings to take possession of another property mortgaged, then one Dincur Bajaj claimed that he had purchased the said property by way of registered sale deed in 2017.

“Bajaj also revealed that said property is also mortgaged with the Indiabulls,” said the DCP.

During investigation, relevant documents were seized and bank statements of the accused were analysed which revealed that the accused had collected around Rs 5 crore, collectively from the complainant bank and other banks/individuals.

The DCP said that it was a challenging task to trace the culprit as he had left his house after mortgaging with the bank and had been evading his arrest for a long time.

“He had been frequently shifting his hideouts as he was leading a bachelor life.  Accordingly, a special team was formed and Sharma was arrested on June 27 with the help of technical surveillance,” said the DCP.
