No ICC World Cup fixture in Mohali unfair: Punjab minister

Chandigarh, June 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Condemning the exclusion of Mohali from the list of host cities in the scheduled released for the ICC ODI World Cup to be held in India in October-November, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Tuesday termed the decision as politically motivated.

Meet Hayer termed the exclusion as open discrimination against Punjab, as this is the first time after the construction of the PCA Stadium in Mohali that the venue is not getting to host a World Cup match.

He said in 1996 and 2011, World Cup semifinals were played in Mohali, but this time not even a single league match has been allotted to Punjab.

Apart from the opening match and the final, Ahmadabad also gets to host the India-Pakistan match, he said.

Meet Hayer said the PCA Stadium is not only one of the top five stadia in India, but also comes in the list of prominent stadia in the world.

"Mohali is always the first choice for cricket fans. Discrimination against Punjab will not be tolerated at any cost," he said, adding that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will raise the issue of open injustice with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
