The Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the two presidents held one-on-one meeting followed by expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries. Both Presidents commended the ongoing development of the Egyptian-Cypriot relations and the steady progress of the historical ties between the two friendly countries that has been witnessed in recent years at all levels, particularly with regards to natural gas and electrical connectivity.
The two leaders also commended the mutual support in various regional and international forums and organizations, the extensive consultation on issues and files of mutual interest, and the agreements held to implement several joint projects within the trilateral cooperation mechanism that brings together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece. Such mechanism is an example to be followed in terms of coordination and consultation between the Mediterranean States. The President of Cyprus underlined the significance of choosing Cairo for his first foreign visit in the region since his election last February, reflecting the keenness to maintain strategic nature of relations between the two countries at the official and grass-roots levels. In this regard, both leaders agreed on launching a joint action forum between both sides.
After the talks, the two Presidents held a press conference.
