Sri Lanka Embassy in Ethiopia celebrates 75th Anniversary of Independence

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ceremonially commemorated the 75th anniversary of independence of Sri Lanka at the Embassy premises on 04th February 2023 with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Ethiopia.

The event consisted of hoisting of the national flag, playing of the national anthems of Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, observing two minutes of silence in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. Further, the Independence Day messages issued by the President, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka were presented by the Mission staff.

While welcoming the significant contribution made by the Sri Lankan nationals in Ethiopia, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Ethiopia, K.K. Theshantha Kumarasiri stressed the need for expanding Sri Lanka’s relations with Ethiopia and other countries of Africa through the African Union in line with the policy agenda of the government of Sri Lanka.

The event concluded with a traditional Sri Lankan luncheon served to the invitees.
