This meeting will take place from 16 January to 19 January 2023, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Joint Technical Meeting, which is part of the promotion mandate of the Commission: is being organized within the framework of Article 45 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Charter); is aligned with the Commission’s current leadership of the African Union (AU)’s African Governance Architecture (AGA) which inter alia promotes inter-organ collaborations and complementarity; and in line with its approved 2023 activity on ‘Participation in AGA related activities’. This meeting also falls within the framework of inter alia, Articles 3(2) and 22(5)(g) of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combatting Corruption.
The overall objective of the Joint Meeting is to strengthen collaboration, coordination, and cooperation between the Commission and the AUABC in implementing the mandates of both Organs of the AU, and in promoting and protecting human rights and other AU shared values of the AU.
In this regard, the organization of this Meeting builds on an existing acknowledgment of the need to establish more systematic and effective synergies and coordination between the two institutions. As such, it is anticipated that the development of the proposed collaboration strategy/framework instrument to guide collaborations between the two institutions as well as related monitoring and evaluation, will assist in providing a concrete and results-based approach to the required and desired mutual collaborations, as well as strengthen requisite commitments and ownership at the secretariat and political levels. The engagement will also build on the similarities between the mandates of the Commission and the AUABC and create opportunities for both institutions to mutually reinforce each another.
