The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development, Ms Nonkosi Mvana, has noted with deep sadness the passing of the Head of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in the Western Cape, Ms Patience Peterson.
Ms Mvana said SASSA is a beacon of hope to the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable South Africans. “Ms Peterson has translated that sense of hope into the delivery of SASSA services to the needy South Africans. She has been hailed as someone who had a deep passion for the poorest and vulnerable South Africans,” said Ms Mvana.
The committee extends its condolences to Ms Peterson's family, her colleagues in the SASSA Western Cape and national offices as well as her colleagues in the Department of Social Development. “She leaves an indelible mark behind. Our thoughts and prayers go to all her loved ones during this difficult time.”
