Lucknow, Jan 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Samajwadi Party (SP) lodged an FIR against social media in-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) with the Hazratganj police station.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Naresh Uttam Patel, state head of Uttar Pradesh, according to the police.
Patel, in his FIR, said, "Richa Rajput through her verified Twitter account has tweeted using indecent language against Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav. The indecent comment made by Richa Rajput will encourage crime against women. Owing to this, there is anger among the SP workers and the common public."
In the tweets, the BJYM social media in-charge had made unsavoury remarks against the SP MP from Mainpuri and the SP chief on multiple occasions from her personal handle.
Rajput was booked under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and the IT Act, the police said.
Lucknow police commissioner S.B. Shirodkar said that the SP leader lodged a complaint against Richa Rajput for making unsavoury remarks and using derogatory language.
"We will investigate it. It is the government's priority to act in all cases where offensive language is used against women. The probe is underway in four cases and legal action will be taken against everyone who used offensive language against women," he added.
It may be recalled that the police had arrested SP social media handler Manish Agarwal on Sunday after which SP president Akhilesh Yadav went to the DGP headquarters to lodge his protest.
