STORYLINE
Runners donned high heel shoes to race in Madrid's annual High Heel Race through the city streets as part of the city's LGBTQ+ Pride festivities.
The race returned on Thursday after two years of cancellations and limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The race - one of the highlights of the LGBTQ+ Pride week in Madrid - has been held for over 22 years.
Large numbers of locals and visitors gathered in Chueca, a district in the Spanish capital, to watch participants charge down the cobbled streets in gravity-defying high heels.
All runners have to wear high heels with a minimum height of 15cm (5.9 inches).
The final run is a fancy dress run, up and down Pelayo St, with runners in wigs, blouses and a bag weighed down with a brick.
