STORYLINE:
An outbreak of Ebola in the Ugandan town of Mubende has prompted health authorities in the Kenyan frontier town of Busia to heighten surveillance to prevent the virus from spreading across the border.
Travelers and truck drivers traveling from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, South Sudan, and Uganda into Kenya now have to undergo screening at the Busia border crossing.
The screening includes measuring body temperatures, with those who have a temperature beyond 37.8C being directed to a holding room at the border.
If the temperature cools down, the traveler is allowed to proceed with their journey, but if it remains high, they are taken into an Ebola isolation center at a hospital.
Officials at the border town say they have screened over 5,000 people since the first case of Ebola was reported in Uganda about two weeks ago, but so far no one has been taken into the Kenyan isolation center.
Kenya has yet to report a case of Ebola, but Kenyans residing in the border town want the Kenyan government and the Busia County government to ensure all measures are taken to prevent Ebola from spreading.
