Treated sewage water from Rithala STP to feed four lakes in Iradat Nagar

New Delhi, Sep 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid the Delhi government's 'City of Lakes' project to rejuvenate existing water sources and create some new ones too, lakes are being developed on 100 acres in Iradatnagar area and will be filled with water treated from Rithala Sewage Treatment Plant.

Of the 100 acres, four lakes are being developed across 60 acres.

The Delhi government is developing lakes in Iradat Nagar with an aim of providing water to the areas which were not getting it from the Delhi Jal Board.

The work for developing lakes is in first phase and efforts are being made to complete it as soon as possible. However, the DJB has made it clear that water of canal flowing near the lake will not be utilised.

Delhi receives rainfall for just 15 days. Therefore, instead of relying on the rainfall, attention is being paid to treatment of waste water.

Planning of construction of the STP was made in a way that water, without flowing through sewers and canals can be treated and used at same place.

At the same time, after upgradation of the Rithala STP, the level of pollutant, like total suspended solids (TSS), will reduce.

The Delhi government is making all out efforts to fulfill the dream of making Delhi 'City of Lakes'.

In the first phase of this project, 250 reservoirs and 23 lakes will be revived. The aim of this project is to protect the city from urban floods and to construct reservoirs to avoid blocked drains.

The Delhi government, using Sustainable Model, is rejuvenating the lakes. Local flora is being planted around the lakes to rejuvenate the ecosystem.

According to officials, it is expected that the objective will be fulfilled by the end of 2024.
