Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan-1' is based on the 1995 novel Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The book is in five parts and is considered one of the greatest novels in the Tamil language.
The official handle of Madras Talkies shared the first look poster for the song, featuring Karthi riding a horse. PS1 chronicles the story of Raja Raja Chola. The film is based on the story of Arulmozhivarman, who was later crowned as Raja Raja Chola 1. It chronicles extensive details on many of the real historical figures from the Chola dynasty.
The film stars an ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R. Parthiban.
The music of the film is composed by AR Rahman. Mani Ratnam has also produced and written the film, along with Lyca Productions. It is co-written by Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan.
'Ponniyin Selvan- 1' will hit theatres on September 30, 2022.
