Lesotho: Minister of Small Business Launches Transmitter Project

The Minister of Small Business, Cooperative and Marketing, Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe officially launched a transmitter amounting to over M3 million at an event held at Ha-Mabeleatlala in Sempe Constituency formally known as Sebapala Constituency on Monday.

Speaking during the launch, Mr. Mofomobe expressed gratitude for the project which he said will play a vital role in connecting Basotho to different network services such as sending money through different money transfers of one‘s choice, Internet services and a wide variety of network coverage and radio stations.

He noted that the project will benefit villagers from more than 15 villages that include Sebapala, Motsapi, Malephane, Moseneke, Letlapeng Photjaphotha, Ha-Mabeleatlala, Tosing and Mafura in Tosing Community Council, adding that the lack of network coverage services will be a story of the past in many villagers within the councils.

Also speaking was the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Mr. Tšoinyana Rapapa who said it is the mandate of his ministry to ensure that every Mosotho accesses the network of his choice and services that goes together with such network.

He urged teamwork among villagers within the project area to ensure that the transmitter is protected in order to always serve the intended purpose of providing sustainable technology services that include cell phone and radio network connections.

He noted that vandalism of Transmitters is common and impacts negatively on government funds as they have to be repaired and replaced when stolen and or vandalised.

The Member of Parliament for Sempe Constituency, Mr. Makalo Raphoto expressed gratitude for the project, saying it paves ways to cover more villages with network coverage and further called to the public to avoid vandalism of any equipment attached as that will cost much money that could have been utilised for more developmental activities.

He further urged teamwork among villagers within the area in ensuring that the transmitter always serves the intended purpose of providing sustainable technology services that include cell phone and radio network connections.

The Community Councillor for Tosing, Mr. Lillo Mpopo promised that the community will jointly work to ensure that the project is well protected.

The project is funded by Universal Service Fund (UFS) under Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA).

The project Construction started in November last year to March and provided temporary employment to 54 residents from the project area where they were temporarily employed as unskilled casual labourers in project construction and were employed in phases.

The event was attended by chiefs, community councillors, government officials and the public.
