Weeks after abdominal tear at Wimbledon, Nadal set to compete in Canadian Open

Montreal (Canada), July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Spanish tennis stalwart and winner of 22 grand slam singles titles, Rafael Nadal is likely to compete in the North American hard-court swing, including the Canadian Open, as he has made his hotel reservations for the event which runs from August 8-14.

Nadal had aggravated an abdominal injury during his Wimbledon last-eight win over Taylor Fritz of the US and withdrawn from his semifinal clash against Australia's Nick Kyrgios.

While experts felt the 36-year-old might be forced to skip the last grand slam of the year, the US Open, Nadal has revealed he should recover completely in 3-4 weeks to carry on with a "normal calendar" after that.

Canadian Open tournament director Eugene Lapierre has confirmed the Spaniard, who has won the opening two grand slams of the year -- Australian and French Open -- is expected to play in the ATP Masters 1000 event, according to a report in Tennis365.

"He's made hotel reservations and he has asked us to send him a case of the balls we're using for the tournament," Lapierre said. "He should return to training."

Following the Canadian Open here, Nadal is likely to also play in the Cincinnati Masters the following week before the North American campaign culminates with the US Open at Flushing Meadows from August 29 to September 11.
