Delhi Police suspends two cops for graft

New Delhi, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Acting tough on the corrupt policemen, the Delhi Police have suspended two of its officials for threatening a man to pay Rs 2 lakh to settle a case, an official said on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (east district) Priyanka Kashyap said a complaint was received alleging that Station House Officer (SHO) of the Cyber Police Station, East District along with one Assistant Sub-Inspector had reached the house of a complainant to investigate a matter reported in Cyber police station by his wife.

"It was further alleged that they threatened him to pay Rs 2 lakh on the pretext to settle the matter. Later when he visited Cyber Police Station, they again threatened to pay the bribe amount," DCP Kashyap said.

She said that the complainant also submitted some recordings in support of his allegations. Accordingly, the police conducted an internal inquiry into the matter and the allegations were found substantiated.

The police have now registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and PoC Act against its own official and are further probing the matter.

"Both the police officials have been placed under suspension and further departmental action is being initiated," the official said.
