Bangkok-bound passenger held at IGI with $41,000

New Delhi, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Bangkok-bound passenger was held at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here after $41,000 (approx Rs 33 lakh) was detected hidden in his luggage, officials said on Monday.

A senior CISF officer said that CISF surveillance and intelligence staff deployed at check-in area of Terminal-3 noticed the suspicious activities of a passenger, later identified as Arjun Kumar Yadav, who was to board a SpiceJet flight bound for Bangkok, via Kolkata.

He was diverted to a random checking point for thorough checking of his luggage. During x-ray screening, CISF personnel noticed a false bottom in one of his bags, and informed senior CISF and Customs officials.

Yadav was brought to Customs office for thorough checking of his bag, and the dollars were recovered hidden under the false bottom of the bag. On enquiry, he could not produce any valid document for carrying such a huge amount of foreign currency.

The passenger, along with the currency, was handed over to Customs officials for further action.
