Islamabad, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Famed singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan came on the radar of Pakistan Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after it discovered his secret bank accounts with a balance of over Pak Rs 60 million, Samaa TV reported.
According to reports, FBR has imposed a tax of Pak Rs 43 million on Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and has given him a month's time to pay.
The FBR discovered that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan holds several secret accounts, however, he claimed that he only has accounts in two banks, Samaa TV reported.
Sources revealed that the Intelligence and Investigation and Land Revenue had traced over Rs 60 million to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's secret bank accounts.
FBR reached out to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to explain the transactions, however, after receiving no satisfactory answer, it ordered him to pay Rs 43 million in taxes within a month.
Last month, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that in the budget for the fiscal year 2022-23, the ruling coalition government had decided to redistribute the economic burden on the poor by taxing the rich, Dawn reported.
Talking to the media in Islamabad after a meeting of the federal cabinet, he said: "The policy we have formulated in the budget is that we have decided to redistribute the burden on the poor. We will tax affluent citizens so the poor are assured the government is giving them relief by taking different measures and is also taxing the rich."
The prime minister hoped that those who were privileged would "gladly" lend their support to the country at this critical juncture and demonstrate a spirit of "sacrifice". "The government will collect hundreds of billions of rupees in taxes through this," he
